Juist is ‘socialmediakanalen’. Ook al is ‘social media’ oorspronkelijk een Engelse term, toch behandel je deze term volgens de Nederlandse spellingregels in een samenstelling. Daarbij geldt dat ‘social’ een bijvoeglijk naamwoord is bij ‘media’, maar niet bij ‘kanalen’.

Socialemediabeleid. Samenstellingen met social(e) media zijn één woord. Als de slot-a van media samen met de beginklinker van het woord erna als één klank ‘mislezen’ kan worden, is er sprake van klinkerbotsing en is een streepje verplicht.
Wat is een social media kanaal?
Social media is een verzamelnaam voor alle online platformen die interactie tussen de gebruikers mogelijk maken. Gebruikers op social media kunnen via verschillende kanalen met elkaar communiceren, foto’s en/of video’s publiceren, informatie met elkaar delen, een discussie aangaan et cetera.

Hoewel de hoofdregel is dat men alle samenstellingen zo veel mogelijk aaneen moet schrijven, mag het koppelteken altijd gebruikt worden ter verduidelijking. Daarom mag je ook ‘sociale-mediagebruik’, ‘socialemedia-gebruik’ of ‘sociale-media-gebruik’ schrijven.
