Hoe een kilt dragen?
Sla de kilt om je lichaam met de plooien naar de achterkant. De bovenband van het kledingstuk moet om je middel vallen, met de twee bovenschorten aan de voorkant. De zoom moet ongeveer tot aan je knie komen. Sla met de rechterarm de kilt om de voorzijde van je lichaam.

- Van origine behoort men onder de kilt geen ondergoed te dragen, maar juist weer wél indien men danst, of men sport, bijvoorbeeld bij de “Highland Games”.
- Iedere Schotse clan heeft zijn eigen ruitpatroon, tartan genaamd, en een Schot heeft het motief van zijn kilt dan ook niet vrij voor het uitkiezen.
Hoe heet een Schotse ruit?
Een tartan is een geruite, wollen stof, waar de Schotse kilt van wordt gemaakt. De oude Kelten droegen al geruite kleding en de goede kwaliteit was zelfs in het Romeinse Rijk bekend.
